When is it time to change your resin?
- Softener is using more salt - if you find that you are adding more salt than before but water is not as soft as it used to be, then it is likely time to replace your softener resin.
- Regenerating is more frequent than usual - similar to above, if you are noticing calcium build up around your faucets and your soap is not lathering as well after regenerating your softener, it may mean the resin has deteriorated to the point where it needs to be replaced.
- Used for more than 5-7 years - soften resin can last up to 10 years. However, municipal water quality has been worsening over time. We recommend checking your resin and start considering change out your softener resin if the performance of your softener is sub-par.
- High chlorine in your water source - high chlorine levels above 1.0ppm and cause your water softener to deteriorate quicker as the surface of the resin become oxidized. If your municipal water source has high chlorine levels, you will want to check your softener more regularly.
